News Flash: Paris Hilton's T-Mobile Sidekick II Hacked.

It was reported on numerous sites spanning the 'Net that Paris Hilton's Sidekick was hacked and exposing (in more ways that one) her complete address book, photo library and voicemail messages. There is no official statement from T-Mobile whether they know who the hacker was, although many members of the hacker community are claiming credit.

Given Hilton's celebrity status, it almost goes without saying that she wouldn't carry a "typical" cell phone. Instead, she owns the latest technology device that many geeks lust after: a Sidekick II.

A Sidekick II is a cell phone/camera/email/instant messenger combination device. The unique aspect about the Sidekick II is that all information including contact lists, pictures and voicemail are not only stored on the device itself, but also on T-Mobile's servers. To access this information, all a user needs is their cell phone number and their unique password. From various sources around the Internet, the hacker apparently already knew Hilton's cell phone number and apparently guessed her password. Rumors of the guessed password include: "password", the last 4 digits of her phone number and "blonde".

Once the hacker gained access to Hilton's online account, he copied her entire contact list, downloaded all her pictures and listened to her saved voicemail. Her contact list included such names as Anna Kornikova and Lindsey Lohan. Many of her contacts reported they had to change their phone numbers because of all the prank calls.

Numerous racy photos from Hilton's Sidekick are also being passed around the Internet. For those interested, head to www.gizmodo.com and search for "Hilton Sidekick". Also of interest, sales of T-Mobile Sidekick II’s increased dramatically after reports of Hilton being hacked.
